Experience & Expertise

Eva Loh has extensive experience working with children with communication, speech-language and literacy difficulties. Eva’s passion and area of interest is in early intervention, supporting toddlers and preschoolers with developmental speech-language delay, autism spectrum disorder and Down syndrome. Eva was awarded full scholarship by Singapore National Council of Social Service to pursue Speech Pathology at the University of Queensland in Australia. Graduated with First Class Honours in Bachelor of Speech Pathology, Eva has since then worked at the social service sector at various settings (including early intervention centres, special school settings) where she grew in her clinical skills and experience.

Eva was a Principal Speech Therapist and held leadership role at MINDS (Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore) where she headed the Speech Therapy Team. Eva was recognised as Singapore’s first certified Key Word Sign Presenter (having completed Key Word Sign Presenter Training in Melbourne, Australia), and was a pioneer of the Key Word Sign (Singapore) communication methodology. Eva was the driving force of the Key Word Sign (Singapore) Initiative that was launched by MINDS in 2020. She was instrumental in adapting the signs from Australian version to Key Word Sign (Singapore), and implementation of the approach organisation-wide.

Eva was also the Lead Trainer of the Key Word Sign (Singapore) Initiative during the inaugural in-house Key Word Sign Singapore Presenter Training (i.e. train-the-trainer model) at MINDS in 2023, and had conducted several Basic Key Word Sign (Singapore) Workshop runs during the developmental phase of the initiaitive. Together with two other members of the project team, Eva was part of the editorial team for the “Learning Key Word Sign (Singapore) Together” book-series (launched in 2023) that featured a repertoire of 700 useful local signs for communication and conversation.

Eva is highly regarded as a key figure in championing the use of Key Word Sign as a form of Augmentative and Alternative Communication in Singapore to help provide people with limited speech to have a “voice” and to be able to express themselves. As a clinician who recognises the benefits and potential in the use of Key Word Sign as a viable mode of communication for children with complex communication needs, Eva continues to actively embrace this communication approach in her clinical work till to date.

Eva is eclectic in her approach and embraces a range of therapy approaches in her clinical work tailoring to individual child’s needs. Accredited as a Facilitator in various Hanen Programs, Westmead Feelings Program and Signposts for Building Better Behaviours, Eva brings with her the expertise, commitment, warmth and fun to the experience where your child and family will receive high quality care and support at Happy Talk.
