Eva Loh has experience working with children with communication, speech-language and literacy difficulties. Specifically, Eva’s passion and area of interest has been in early intervention with children with special needs, including cerebral palsy, down syndrome, autism, intellectual disability and developmental delay.
Eva was awarded full scholarship in 1999 by Singapore National Council of Social Service to pursue Speech Pathology at the University of Queensland in Australia. Graduated with First Class Honours in Bachelor of Speech Pathology in 2003, Eva has since then began her career as a Speech Therapist in the social service sector – where she previously worked in a multidisciplinary team as a speech therapist at Cerebral Palsy Centre (Singapore), as well as an independent speech therapist at Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (e.g., Yio Chu Kang Gardens School, and Lee Kong Chian Gardens School). Eva also had experience working in private practice in Australia.
Through her early years of a practising clinician, Eva pro-actively kept abreast with extensive and evidence-based certification training to be able to better cater to needs of her clientele with the most up-to-date knowledge and skills. In addition to being trained in Bobath Neurodevelopmental Treatment, Eva is certified in It Takes Two to Talk, Target Word, Learning Language and Loving It and Teacher Talk Hanen Programs to be able to conduct comprehensive training for parents and teachers-educators. Eva is also certified to provide More Than Words and TalkAbility Hanen Programs for parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
In 2010, with her pioneering spirit, Eva successfully delivered and completed the first-ever in Singapore Learning Language and Loving It Hanen Program (a comprehensive training program for educators/teachers) for staff at Lee Kong Chian Gardens School (as on The Hanen Centre records).
Eva is, in fact, also Singapore’s first qualified Key Word Sign (Australia) Presenter to be able to conduct Key Word Sign training to parents-caregivers and professionals (including teachers, therapists). As a clinician who uses Key Word Sign actively in her work, Eva recognises the benefits and potential in use of Key Word Sign and Gesture as a viable mode of communication for children with complex communication needs.
Eva is eclectic in her approach and embraces a range of therapy approaches in her clinical work tailoring to individual child’s needs. Eva believes in training and empowering parents-caregivers, teachers and staff with the right attitude, appropriate knowledge and skills on communication to help them create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for the child(ren).
Eva is registered with the Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC) and is a practising member with Speech-Language and Hearing Association of Singapore (SHAS). Eva is also involved in the Professional Self-Regulation Program with Speech Pathology Australia, and is a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist.
